• 5.0 out of 5 stars from R -- A Captivating and Heartfelt Read! : I have always enjoyed the many books I read by this author. They were entertaining and very creatively written. Her latest book was very different from anything she ever wrote-a true story about her mother’s sudden death and speculation on who killed her. As I was reading this, I was in awe of all the author had accomplished regardless of her nuclear and extended family consisting of abusers, rapists, and drug and alcohol addicts. To realize that someone I admire so much has had to go through such heartbreak and self doubt, it breaks my heart. I had a hard time putting it down but I had to take breaks so that I could collect my thoughts before continuing on. This book is so frank, open, honest, and contains some hard things to read. I did truly enjoy reading this book. Kory is an amazing author and to know that she has gone through all of this just makes me admire her that much more. Awesome book! The author recounts her early years along with a poignant picture of how family members cope with abuse. The story (true) explains clearly the actions of family members through her discussions and attempts to find out the truth behind her Mother's death. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Stan Hutchings -- A memoir of a very personal tragedy : Unlike other books by Kory Shrum, "This book is a memoir. It reflects the author’s present recollections of experiences over time. It is a true story about a terrible tragedy." Not only was her mother probably murdered, the possible murderer could have been her uncle, her mother's brother. And he perhaps killed her grandmother and grandfather too. The final answer may never be known, and her death could have been the last straw in a sad life. This is a hard book to read, as Kory's grief, regret, and sorrow bleed through in the narrative, triggering similar feelings. But it is fascinating and educational to read how Kory dealt with this horrible trauma. Kory's mental evolution through this emotional trial is inspiring and it's amazing that she is so "together' after such a tumultuous, traumatic childhood and adolescence. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from xperson306 -- Difficult Memories. : I had deliberately avoided the podcast series ‘Who Killed My Mother’ as I wanted to read the story in it’s complete form. This is a sad, but compelling tale about Kory’s mother, her family and Kory herself. There are no good guys or bad guys in a fictional sense, as these are/were real people. However, there are some about whom I cannot express my feelings in a book review. Thankfully the ones in this category are no longer breathing the same air as the rest of us. It is about survival in a cruel world and people’s ability to still love/care for others despite their own struggles. It is also about self forgiveness and Kory’s struggle to come to terms with her mother’s death. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 7, 2021 )

To survive this and come out stronger takes a special person, Kory. This true story is honestly written and raises points we should all be looking out for.
